Interview with young boxer Óscar Díaz (Toro)

Óscar Díaz, known as "Toro", is a 21 year old young man from Alcázar, whom many experts predict to be the great future of Spanish boxing. He is hard-working, humble and very approachable, he discovered boxing almost by chance and never imagined that he would end up turning it into his passion and profession. We have interviewed him a few days before his fight to know a little more about him and his career.

When did you start boxing and why?

I started boxing when I was 12 years old with the goal of losing weight. As a boy I was a child with a high weight, so to improve my physical conditions I looked for a sport to lose weight. That's what made me enter the world of boxing and become passionate about it. At 15 I got my Amateur license and fought for the first time. It was then when I started my career, I competed all over Spain and got several awards of which I am very proud. I was twice champion of Spain in Amateur, four times champion of Andalusia, I have participated in international tournaments...

At the age of 18 I became a professional.

Boxing involves a lot of perseverance and effort. What is your training routine?

I currently train twice a day for six days a week. Sometimes, when I have to prepare for some fights I train up to three times a day. The workouts are usually an hour and a half long. I am very involved in terms of physical preparation, it is something primordial in my profession. Not only the training sessions are part of this preparation, diets and care to avoid injuries are also essential.

What do you think characterizes you as a boxer?

I would say that my strong point is the constancy and involvement I have with this sport. When I get in the ring I'm usually calm, feeling the support of the people helps me to achieve it.

What has been the most difficult part of your professional career so far?

Boxing is something that fills me a lot and that I enjoy, therefore, it makes all the sacrifice involved in being a professional athlete more bearable. But it is true that training sometimes suffer, as well as separating me from my people to go to fight, but fortunately I have always had a lot of support from them.

Which match do you remember most fondly?

The day I made my professional debut in Seville. It was very special because, in addition to being the first, there was a very good atmosphere with the boy I had to fight because our coaches were friends. I felt very supported and I felt the public's support.

What do you consider to be the key to success in an athlete?

As I said before, I believe that perseverance is what bears the greatest fruit. But the biggest key is to feel the sport as a true passion.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to take up boxing professionally?

That you work hard, make an effort, and dedicate a large part of your time to pursue your goal.

What does boxing bring to you?

What I like the most is the love and support from the people. In and out of the fights.

How do you see yourself in the future?

I would like to go as far as possible, to try to become a world or European champion. But above all, I would like to be able to continue boxing for a long time in my life.

What does it mean to you that the former company you worked for has become one of your main sponsors?

I am proud to have worked here and now to be able to carry the Eurotex brand with me. I am very grateful for the opportunity they have given me and the constant support I receive from the company. They have been very involved with me, and I have felt that support from the entire Eurotex team.

From Eurotex we send our best wishes to Oscar Toro in his next fight.
