Who is behind Mr. Dripping?
Art has always been part of the life of Mark Ríos, one of the most recognized artists on the scene today.
She studied fashion design, and at the end of her studies she created, together with a classmate, a fashion label. Her first designs were hand-painted and, since then, she had more interest in painting than in fashion. In 2013 she decided to go solo and dedicate herself to the art of painting. She spent much of her time researching and experimenting in a self-taught way, playing with new combinations in order to achieve different results to what she had until then.
The dripping effect appeared to him in his dreams
Marc dreamed that his works floated in the air, without frames. That inspired him and he set himself the goal of making it happen. He began to throw paint on canvas, wait for it to dry and then try to remove it, and although the idea didn't work at first, he continued with his research.
He was inspired by Pollock's unique way of painting, and the dripping effect he used. After years of perfecting the technique, Mark has created his own version of dripping art, eventually becoming Mr. Dripping. Unlike Pollock, who worked with a more abstract painting, Mark decided to shape his paintings, making them more realistic. He currently portrays human figures with his own artistic technique, without touching the canvas, through the dripping of the palette knife.
Works turned into a performance, live painting
The process of creating his paintings is also quite peculiar. They are live works, in which he traces in a matter of only five or ten minutes the characters live. In this way he manages to go deeper and capture the essence and way of being of the person portrayed, coming to life on a canvas that he has not even touched.
Mark has managed to turn the process of creating his portraits into an experience in the form of entertainment. He has even appeared in some shows such as fashion shows, concerts, galas, movie premieres or the final of the Eurocup.
He uses social networks to give visibility to his work. It is there where he shares his peculiar art and how it is created. His Instagram account with more than 100 thousand followers is full of almost hypnotic videos in which you can see how Mr. Dripping drops the paint with his spatula and turns those lines into a realistic and original reflection of what he has decided to capture.
Live painting, canvases of unique works of art, along with a very defined personal brand have attracted the attention of many celebrities who have wanted to be captured by the Spanish artist. To achieve the dripping of the palette knife without touching the canvas and create magical strokes, he had to explore for years with different paints.
