Description
Silicate coating with excellent adhesion; it stands out for being ecological, fireproof and resistant to fungus formation.
Why choose Silicate Coating?
Silicate is a mineral that gives the paint a very high adhesion. However, although it is a very resistant coating, it does not generate a surface film, and this characteristic gives it its main advantage: breathability.
Thus, water vapor can enter and leave the wall without any problem, preventing it from being trapped and triggering problems with humidity, fungi and other microorganisms.
It is therefore an ideal coating for covering surfaces with new or old cement or lime plasters where good water vapor transpiration and high adhesion are desired, as well as for the restoration of old silicate paints and plasters.
On plaster surfaces , plaster, plaster sprayed and in general all surfaces having an acidic nature, this coating cannot be applied directly without a previous treatment.
Its application is not recommended on wood, plastic or surfaces painted with oil paints or plastic or recent paints (the richer the emulsion, the more unsuitable they are).
Features and Benefits
Thanks to its silicate mineral component, the paint offers high resistance in exterior environments, which is why it is so widely used in the restoration of facades and all types of exterior walls. The silicate allows the paint to adhere to the substrate by means of an insoluble chemical reaction called petrification, instead of forming a surface film as occurs with other types of paints and coatings.
The most recommended substrates to apply this paint are those of mineral character or concrete compounds. Among its main characteristics, we highlight:
- Water-based product
- Highly breathable, avoids any kind of moisture problem in the future
- Excellent adhesion, especially on walls containing silica .
- Compacts and petrifies the surface by its mineralizing action
- It has a high elasticity, which helps to avoid cracks in the coating.
- Inhibits microbiological growth on its surface
- Offers high resistance to corrosive environments and climatic agents
- Due to its siliceous nature, it does not burn when in contact with flame.
How is it applied?
The application can be made by brush, roller or airless spray gun, after shaking the product and dilution as indicated in the instructions for use. The cleaning of equipment should be done with water before the paint dries. Once dry, cleaning solvent should be used.
- Treatment of the support:
The substrate must be clean, dry, free of grease or contaminants, without loose elements and free of areas affected by biodegradation that prevent the correct anchorage or affect the durability of the painting system. It is convenient a perfect sanding in surfaces with old layers of paint, especially if it is of lime, to facilitate the adherence.
New concrete surfaces: Allow concrete to set completely (28 days minimum). Remove setting laitance, soluble salts, dust, grease, oil and other contaminants by mechanical or manual procedures.
Surfaces already painted of concrete or mortars: Eliminate dust and disintegrable materials by mechanical or manual procedures. Painted surfaces in bad condition should be completely removed using high pressure water machinery. Do not use chemical products of acid or alkaline nature in the cleaning works, since they could damage irreversibly the base support.
On other types of substrates: The solidity and anchorage of the paint must be previously checked and the nature of the substrate must be diagnosed in order to avoid possible incompatibilities. Eurotex cannot guarantee the performance of the paint on other products.
- Product application:
Primer: Apply one coat of Ocean F50 silicate coating diluted 30 - 50 % as a primer if the surface appears firm, dry, absorbent and compact.
Finishing: Apply a first coat of Oceano F50 silicate coating, diluted between 5 - 10 % with water. Let dry between coats about 12 - 24 hours depending on application conditions. Then apply one or two finishing coats (depending on the characteristics of the substrate) diluting if necessary.
